Dhaka City Gay Group is a safe, inclusive, and confidential Telegram community for LGBTQ+ individuals living in or connected to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Given the complex legal and social landscape surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity in Bangladesh—where same-sex relations remain criminalized under Section 377 of the Penal Code—the channel prioritizes digital safety, anonymity, and peer-led emotional support. It serves as a discreet space for sharing verified resources: mental health referrals (including low-cost and anonymous counseling options), legal aid contacts, harm-reduction guidance, and updates on regional LGBTQ+-friendly services. The group does not engage in public advocacy or political mobilization but focuses on practical solidarity—such as organizing private social meetups (with strict consent and security protocols), sharing affirming literature in Bengali and English, and offering mentorship between members across age and experience levels.
The channel is moderated by trained volunteers with backgrounds in psychology, human rights, and community organizing. All content undergoes sensitivity review to avoid exposing members to risk; no real names, geotags, or identifiable images are permitted. While primarily serving gay men and queer-identifying individuals, the space welcomes all sexual minorities—including bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and questioning people—as well as trans and non-binary individuals who feel aligned with its mission. It explicitly excludes hate speech, unsolicited advice, medical misinformation, or content that could compromise member safety. New members are onboarded via brief, private intake chats to confirm intent and reinforce community guidelines. This channel fills a critical gap: providing connection and resilience without compromising security in a context where formal LGBTQ+ infrastructure remains extremely limited.
